Contact Lens Guide
Our simple advice to achieving the best possible comfort and vision
How to wear your connect lenses
At a John Fell Opticians, we provide a contact lens consultation to all contact lens wearers, making sure you are confident and comfortable with how to insert, remove and care for your contact lenses. Our optometrists will give advice based on your eye health, lifestyle and the latest advances in contact lens technology.
Keep it clean
- Wash and dry your hands before touching your lenses.
- Clean your lens case and lenses with solution after each use and replace the case at least monthly.
- Discard lenses and solutions past their expiry date.
- Don’t apply a dirty, damaged or dusty lens (including lenses left in their case for more than seven days without cleaning with fresh solution).
- Don’t re-use, decant or top up solution – use fresh solution every time.
Handle with care
- Handle lenses gently to avoid damaging them.
- Don’t use tap water or saliva on your lenses or lens case.
- Check the lens isn’t inside out before applying, and always apply the right one first to avoid a mix up.
- Avoid wearing lenses for showering, swimming, hot tubs or water sports unless wearing goggles or your eyes are firmly closed.
- Keep your eyes closed when using hairspray or other aerosols.
- Insert and remove lenses before applying or removing makeup.
Follow instructions
Your optometrist will give you specific instructions for the type of lenses you have, so be sure to follow them. This will include whether you can sleep with them, your wearing schedule and replacement frequency, and the recommended cleaning and storage solution.
If you’re not sure or your eyes aren’t feeling quite right, don’t wear them and make sure you give us a call.
Keep your appointments
Be sure to have regular visits with your optometrist and wear only the lenses that they prescribe. Don’t switch solution or use eye drops without consulting them, and definitely don’t share lenses or solution with any other user!
Your optometrist can also help make sure you have an up to date pair of spectacles for when you are not wearing your lenses.
